Creating and Submitting Sitemaps for Beginners

So you have your website indexed with a particular search engine's sitemap and how it turns up as the first result when your website's name is typed on the search engine. So naturally, it makes you really proud and feel good about yourself. Once you've done that, well congratulations but then again, there's a lot more other stuff you need to go to plug in your domain. And this article provides you with more useful insight to have your website successfully increase in exposure and rankings, particularly on creating and submitting your sitemap to a desired search engine.

If you want to know what a sitemap actually is and more about creating and submitting your sitemap, then it is best to read further on.

First and foremost, we have to know what a Sitemap file really is.

You can find two major types of sitemaps.
One is an HTML page listing by section of the pages on your site to help visitors find the information they are seeking.

The next type is the XML Sitemap, which is often called Sitemaps.
In layman's terms, a Sitemap is a list of pages your website has.

Submission of Sitemaps is a way for the search engine to trace all the pages you have on your site and they are really helpful if your site possesses the traits below:

Your site has a vast category of subjects.
You have a few links on your new website.
The pages are not linked well to each other.
People come across your website for want of finding the information they want. If your website doesn't contain the information they want, then there is no need for them to stay on your website any longer.

Since you have a general picture on what a sitemap is, it's time to start making your own now.

Generally, the easiest way to achieve this is to use a free sitemap generator, but if you know a thing or two about web designing then you can do without the help of a free sitemap generator.

Here's how to use the sitemap creator in Four steps:

1. Type your website name.
2. The frequency should be changed to at least weekly.
3. Choose "Use Server's Response" below
4. Leave the Priority as is, or have the "Automatically Calculated Priority" checked, after that click on the "Start" button.

Once you have done the necessary steps, all you have to do now is wait for the site to take you a page that says "Your Sitemap is ready" and you can then download the free sitemap created for you. You can also choose to have your free sitemap emailed to you.

Once your sitemap is created, the next thing to do is to submit it to the site engine. Be sure to create an account on the site engine to accomplish this task. Before submitting your sitemap, you must first gain access to your account by verifying it. You can now then submit your website and test your sitemap once your account is verified and confirmed and will then be indexed with the search engine you have chosen.
